Unlocking Potential through Safety, Empathy, and Clinical Expertise

Description

With over two decades of experience, including 18 years in community therapy and my current specialist role in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), I provide a unique, trauma-informed approach to Speech and Language Therapy. I believe that true communication only flourishes when a young person feels emotionally safe and deeply understood.

The Therapeutic Connection: SLT Meets Counseling
As a trained counselor, I bring advanced skills in active listening and empathy to every session. This allows me to support clients through their most difficult times, particularly those whose communication is impacted by:

  • Mental Health Challenges: Supporting young people where anxiety, depression, or trauma affects their ability to interact.
  • Neurodivergent Profiles: Specialist support for Autistic young people and those with ADHD, focusing on regulation and self-advocacy.
  • Selective Mutism & Anxiety: Using alternative communication methods and low-pressure techniques to ensure every voice is "heard," even when it cannot be spoken aloud.

Clinical Specialisms
I offer expert assessment and evidence-based intervention across the lifespan, including:

  • Speech & Motor Disorders: Articulation, Phonology, and Childhood Apraxia of Speech (Dyspraxia).
  • Language Development: Targeted support for Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) and early childhood language delays.
  • Fluency: Compassionate therapy for children and adolescents who stammer.
  • Social & Emotional Growth: Developing play skills and navigating social-emotional difficulties.

A Collaborative & Adaptive Approach
Whether working with a preschooler through play or an adolescent via telehealth, I adapt my style to match the client's needs. My work is built on:

  • Safety First: Creating a fun, supportive environment where the pressure to "perform" is removed.
  • Lifelong Learning: Staying at the forefront of research in neurodivergence and mental health.
  • Systemic Support: Partnering with parents, schools, and medical professionals to ensure a cohesive therapy journey.

Professional Qualifications

  • 20+ Years Clinical Experience: Specialist in Community SLT and CAMHS.
  • Trained Counselor: Advanced skills in psychological support and emotional regulation.
  • Fully Registered: Member of the HCPC and RCSLT.

"My goal is to hear the voice of every child, regardless of how they choose to share it. By combining clinical therapy with counseling skills, I help young people build the confidence to connect with the world on their own terms."
