How we check the specialists you find here

When you’re worn out and stuck on a long waiting list, the last thing you need is to wonder whether a name you found online is genuine. Here’s exactly what we do to check the specialists on The SEND List — and how you can check too.

Two kinds of profile — and we’re open about both

We tell you where our information comes from, so you always know what you’re looking at.

Verified specialist

Checked by a person at The SEND List

These specialists have been through the checks below. We’ve confirmed they’re registered with their professional body, that they hold the right qualifications, and that the profile genuinely belongs to them.

Listed from public information

A helpful starting point

So you can see who’s out there, some profiles are put together from publicly available sources, such as a clinic’s own website. These haven’t yet been claimed or confirmed by the specialist, so please treat them as a starting point and do your own checks too.

What we check before a specialist is verified

Four steps, every time. Nothing is approved automatically.

01

A real person reviews every claim

When a specialist claims their profile, a member of our team reviews it by hand before anything is approved.

02

Registered with their professional body

We check the specialist is registered with the body that regulates their profession — such as the HCPC or the relevant register — using that body’s public records.

03

They prove the profile is theirs

Before a profile is verified, the specialist confirms who they are and that the listing genuinely belongs to them.

04

Qualifications and insurance

We ask to see relevant qualifications and insurance, and check they’re in order before a profile is marked as verified.

What “verified” means — and what it doesn’t

Verified means we’ve confirmed a specialist is registered, qualified, and who they say they are. It is not a recommendation of one specialist over another, and it isn’t a promise about how your child’s care will go. You know your child best — please still ask questions and trust your judgement about whether someone is the right fit.

How to check a specialist yourself

A few simple steps can give you extra peace of mind before you get in touch.

  • Look the specialist up on their professional register — for example, search the HCPC register by name.
  • Ask which professional body they’re registered with, and their registration number.
  • Ask about their experience with your child’s specific needs.
  • Ask what an assessment or session involves, how much it costs, and how long the wait is.
  • Trust how you feel after a first conversation. The right specialist will make you feel listened to.

Common questions

Are all the specialists on the site verified?

No. Verified specialists have been through the checks above. Others are listed from publicly available information and are clearly labelled, so you always know which is which.

Does “verified” mean you recommend them?

No. It means we’ve confirmed they’re registered, qualified and who they say they are. The choice of who’s right for your child is always yours.

Do specialists pay to appear higher in the list?

Paying never affects whether a specialist passes our checks. If a specialist chooses to promote their profile, that profile will always be clearly labelled so you can see it for what it is.

How do I report a concern about a specialist?

Email hello@thesendlist.co.uk with the specialist’s name and what you noticed. We’ll look into it as soon as we can.
