If your child is bright but cannot keep up with handwriting, dressing or PE, and "dyspraxia" keeps coming up, The Dyscovery Centre is the place that has studied it longest. Part of the University of South Wales in Newport and running since 1997, it is an interdisciplinary centre assessing developmental coordination disorder (DCD, also called dyspraxia) alongside ADHD, dyslexia, language difficulties and autism.
Because coordination difficulties rarely travel alone, the team assesses the whole developmental picture in one place, which avoids the scattergun of separate referrals. Assessment is evidence-based and led by people who have shaped national and international DCD guidance.
Families leave with a clear diagnosis where appropriate, a written report for school and EHCP evidence, and practical recommendations. Assessments are available in Newport and online for children aged five and above.
